Q: Will a new barrel made in Upper Sandusky fit my Model 37?
A: If the serial number of your gun is above 855000, an interchangeable barrel made in Upper Sandusky will fit your gun, but will likely need to be custom fit by one of our gunsmiths.
Q: Where is the serial number located on my Model 37?
A: On the Model 37®, the serial number is located on the bottom right side of the receiver or on earlier models the chamber end of the receiver between the magazine and barrel.
Q: What can I do if my Model 37® is double feeding or not feeding at all?
A: The quickest and easiest fix to this problem is a good thorough cleaning inside the receiver. Illustrated instructions for disassembly and cleaning of the M37 are included in our owners manual. Call us at 419-294-4113 to get a copy. If the problem persists, our skilled gunsmiths can service your firearm. For more information, go to the service department page.
Q: What does Re-Bluing mean?
A: Over time the finish on the metal on your shotgun can corrode, rust or just wear. Re-Bluing the shotgun can greatly increase the longevity and overall appearance of the metal. First we polish off the existing coating and rust, as well as some pitting (depending how deep it is). This is a high polish. Next we hot salt blue the parts at a high temperature that actually changes the color of the surface. The parts are then protected with a sealant.
Q: Are there any authorized service shops in my area of the country?
A: At this time, the only authorized service department is through the factory, here in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Q: How do I ship my gun for service work?
A: Ithaca Gun Company is a registered FFL manufacturer and can receive your shotgun for service work. To avoid any shipping hassles due to everchanging firearm shipping restrictions please use your local firearm dealership to ship your firearm to us for service. We do not accept C.O.D. Insuring your gun through the carrier is recommended. The B.A.T.F. laws stipulate that no live ammunition can accompany the firearm either in the gun or in the same box when sending the firearm.
Q: What is length of pull?
A: Length of pull (L.O.P.) is the distance from where the butt of the stock rests against your shoulder to where your finger pulls the trigger. Factory standard throughout the years have ranged from 13 7/8″ to 14 1/4″.
Q: Why is my trigger too heavy or too light?
A: Our new standard trigger pressure is 4-5 lbs. In the Past, Ithaca depended on hand filing the hammer and trigger fit. Now with CNC machined parts, we can actually reduce your existing weight by just replacing the hammer and trigger. If you would like this done, please send the trigger group to our service department with your contact information to the address on the service page.
Q: What Models does Ithaca Gun Company service?
A: Ithaca Gun Company services all models of the Model 37/87 along with most Ithaca 1911’s. We do not offer any other services for the other Ithaca models and have no parts for them.

Q. Will this barrel fit my gun?
- Our currently manufactured barrels will only fit receivers with a serial number above 855000.
- If you have a serial number below 855000, our barrels will not fit.
- If you purchased a pre-855000 serial number barrel to fit your pre-855000 receiver, we cannot guarantee fit due to manufacturing inconsistencies of pre 855000 serial numbers.
- We can fit a new barrel to a pre-855000 serial numbered receiver by installing an adapter. Cost for this is $750.00 including the new barrel but does not include return shipping. Minimum one year lead time. Click here for more information: https://test.ithacagun.com/product-category/barrels-receivers/
- If you buy a new barrel, we will fit it for free, but you are responsible for return shipping which is subject to change based on current shipping charges.
Q. My barrel doesn’t fit my receiver but the serial number indicates it should.
A: Loosen the yoke screw on the yoke (piece at end of magazine tube that saddles the barrel) and remove the screw. This should loosen the yoke. Once the yoke is loose, attempt to insert and twist the barrel into place. Once the barrel is seated, center the yoke to the barrel and snug the screw but do not tighten. Remove and reinsert the barrel. If smooth, fully seat the yoke screw.
Q. Why are shells sticking in the barrel or not extracting properly?
A: Modern ammunition is mostly utilizing steel-based hulls with some such as Federal using a brass “wash” on the steel to make it appear as brass. Upon firing, the steel base expands into the worn extraction grooves in the barrel, thus not leaving enough of the lip on the base of the hull for the extractors to grasp. Polishing the chamber will likely cause more harm than good. We suggest trying brass-based shells such as Remington STS/Nitro and Winchester AA. We have found these shells to perform reliably when other don’t. If that still doesn’t work, the barrel is likely worn past its useable life.
Q. I bought a new stock and it doesn’t fit.
A: Older M37’s had varying tang lengths. Our stocks are designed for tangs of roughly 1-1/2”. To find your tang length, remove the original stock and measure the tang from the back of the trigger housing to the tip of the tang. If it’s over 1-1/2” it will need to be altered by a competent gunsmith or sent to us for fitting.
Q. My stock fits but the forend doesn’t?
- If the forend wood doesn’t fit, it is likely you have a 2-3/4” slide tube. To use our new forend wood you will have to purchase a 3” slide tube, available on our website. 3″ guns manufactured after 1978 or Serial Number 371650000 / Bar Length 6″; Tube Length 5 7/8″
- 2 3/4″ Guns prior to 1978 or s./n. 371650000 / Bar Length 5 3/4″; Tube Length 6″ or 6 1/4″ (These parts have been discontinued and are no longer in production.)
- The Model 37 Classic Slide tube features a threaded nut on the rear and a bar Heliarc welded to the tube. This tube has been on most Model 37s throughout the years of manufacturing.
****Different years of manufacturing require different lengths of the tube. To ensure proper fit, please refer to the length descriptions before proceeding. Depending on condition, discontinued parts may possibly be repaired by Ithaca, but require the actual wood forend, original tube, and nut to be sent to Ithaca Service for proper fitting.
Q. How do I send my gun in for service?
- Call us at 419-294-4113 or email us at service@test.ithacagun.com and we will answer your questions.
- Do not send the gun until calling or having email confirmation prior to doing so.
Q. What does it cost to refurbish my firearm.
A: In most cases, we can reblue your entire firearm for $275 (subject to change without notice) and we can refinish your wood for $250.00 (subject to change without notice). A typical refurbishment will run roughly $600.00 and any necessary parts plus return shipping. This does not include any additional parts. We will call you if we find that repair beyond bluing is necessary.
Q. Why is shipping so expensive?
A: We insure all shipments and all firearms require adult signatures upon receipt.
Q. Can I return an item?
A: Yes but we cannot refund any shipping costs and you are subject to a 20% restocking fee. Items must be in original packaging and show no signs of use. Anything older than 30 days is non-refundable.
